Multiple Sensor Arrays: Advantages and Implications

Abstract

An intelligent analytical instrument is one that can “understand” its environment to some degree.1 The basic components are illustrated in Fig.1. An array of sensors enables the instrument to monitor its environment. Raw data from the sensors is converted into a suitable form by an interface before being passed to the microprocessor. This typically involves signal amplification, offsetting and digitisation.
