Abstract
The structure of surfactant micelles can be investigated through neutron scattering. The usefulness of such data is discussed in terms of their resolution. Spatial resolution, i. e. the ability to resolve fine details of the structure, is achieved by extending the data to high scattering vectors. Chemical resolution, i. e. the ability to discriminate between the various chemical groups of the surfactant molecules, is achieved through isotopic labeling. An experiment illustrating these criteria is presented for the surfactant sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS).
