Abstract

Endometrial carcinoma is the most common invasive neoplasm of the female genital tract and the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer in the United States. In 1991 there were an estimated 33,000 new cases and approximately 4000 deaths resulting from this neoplasm.11,190 World-wide, approximately 150,000 cases are diagnosed each year, making endometrial carcinoma the fifth leading cancer in women.176 The incidence of endometrial cancer varies widely throughout the world. In developing countries in Asia, Africa, and South America as well as in Japan the incidence is four to five times lower than in industrialized countries in Europe and North America.67.
