Abstract
There are two types of naturally occurring oxygen indicators. The first includes myoglobin and some soluble enzyme systems and may be uniformly distributed in low concentration over the cytosol: the second is localized and concentrated either in discrete organelles about a micron in diameter such as the mitochondria or the peroxisomes (W.eibel 1969), or in more extended organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum (Claude et al. 1947). In both cases, differing resolutions and sensitivities are possible.
