Abstract
Analysing transmitted light at 700 and 730 nm, we found a linear relationship between the blood concentration and the absorbance change in perfused hindlimb of rat when physiological haematocrits (Hc) in the range of 15 to 50% were used for the inflowing perfusate. Several optical parameters, which are required for calculation of changes in oxyhaemoglobin, deoxyhaemoglobin and blood volume, were determined. In the present paper, we report the application of a two-wavelength method to the simultaneous measurement of haemoglobin oxygenation of rat brain and skeletal muscle at steady state in vivo.
