Abstract

Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) are a group of discrete but structurally related polypeptides,1–3 which bind and modulate the biological activity of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) I and II.4–9 Since available evidence suggests that IGF-I and -II participate in growth, metabolism, differentiation, and injury repair,10–24 to name just a few biologic processes in which IGFs are implicated, IGFBPs may have important regulatory actions in these and other diverse biological processes.
