Expression of Differentiated Function in Neoplasms

  • Chapter
The Pathobiology of Neoplasia

Abstract

“Once a cancer cell, always a cancer cell” is classic dogma that arose quite naturally from observation of the usual intractable course of cancer in human beings.1 Yet as difficult to manage as clinical cancer may be, the realization is emerging that some cancer cells in certain situations may give rise to cell progeny that are postmitotic and terminally differentiated.
