Physiological Disposition of Narcotic Agonists and Antagonists

  • Chapter
Narcotic Drugs

Abstract

The disposition and metabolism of narcotic drugs have been an extremely active area of research during the past few decades. Much effort has been extended in this area due to two factors: (1) a search for the mechanism of action of analgesic drugs and/or the mechanism of tolerance and physical dependence and (2) the need for basic data concerning the disposition and metabolism of a new drug prior to release for clinical experimentation and subsequent filing of a new drug application.
