Hypothalamus: Anterior Pituitary Gland

  • Chapter
Narcotic Drugs

Abstract

Prior to 1940 very few definitive studies were done concerning the effects of narcotic analgesics on endocrine function. In general most of the early reports dealt with either the toxicity of morphine following extirpation or administration of endocrine tissue or morphological changes in endocrine organs after administration of the drug. These data are thoroughly reviewed by Krueger et al.(1)

The author expresses his thanks to Dr. Peter Lomax for his kind comments and criticisms of the manuscript. Part of the work reported in this chapter was supported by research grants from the American Medical Association Education and Research Foundation and USPHS, NB-04499 and MH-17691.
