Abstract
The major purpose of this chapter is to address a number of practical and strategic issues involved in the conduct of cognitive therapy. Despite the fact that there has been a surge of interest in cognitive therapy in recent years (Mahoney, 1977), the idea that emotional suffering is related to cognition is by no means new. Victor Raimy (1975) has described in considerable detail the diverse historical threads that have been associated with the development of cognitive therapy.
