Abstract
Testosterone administered to normal men is know to depress spermatogenesis to azoospermia, as reflected in the ejaculate, and to depress Leydig cell morphology to the point that only mesenchymal cells and fibroblasts are identifiable. It is also know that urinary total gonadotropins are concomitantly depressed to the point that they are undetectable in 24 hour urine aliquots administered to single assay rats (1). It has been widely assumed, but not proved, that the depression of human testicular function by administering testosterone is secondary to pituitary suppression.
