Abstract
Considering the fanfare that accompanied the discovery of the laser in the early 1960s and the extravagant claims that were made for it, there have been relatively few good uses for lasers. Some of the uses, however, have led to important advances in the field of ophthalmology. This chapter describes the major laser instrumentation that has been developed. The important features of the instruments and their applications are discussed, and some views as to the present usefulness and future possibilities are described.
