Abstract
Demography is the study of the life tables of populations which summarize probabilities of survival and rates of fecundity of individuals at each age. The particular values of these parameters for each population depend upon both the adaptations of individuals and attributes of the environments in which they live. Life-table parameters vary greatly within populations according to season, year, and individual differences, and they vary among populations according to locality, habitat, and ecological role. In some cases, the correlations of life-table parameters among themselves and with certain environmental factors have suggested mechanisms by which their values are determined.
