A Comparison of the Roles of Bacteria and Fungi

  • Chapter
Bacteria in Nature

Part of the book series: Bacteria in Nature ((BANA,volume 1))

Abstract

Most bacteriologists have little knowledge of fungi and probably harbor doubts that they are proper subjects for microbiological research. Most mycologists know little about bacteria and tend to regard them as organisms with bizarre metabolisms and lacking in morphological charm. Even those whose trade should encompass both bacteria and fungi, such as pathologists and ecologists, tend to lean strongly toward one or other of these two groups. My own leaning towards fungi will probably be all too obvious to readers of this chapter.
