Abstract
Diagnostic terminology is widely used by mental health professionals. In the United States, diagnostic concepts have become dominated by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) published by the American Psychiatric Association (1980, 1987, 1994). Because reimbursement has become increasingly dependent on DSM diagnoses, mental health professionals are understandably concerned about such diagnoses.
