Immunodiagnosis of Blastomycosis

  • Chapter
Blastomycosis

Part of the book series: Current Topics in Infectious Disease ((CTID))

Abstract

Blastomycosis in its acute, chronic, or disseminated form does not present a distinct clinical picture. Its diagnosis is further complicated by the fact that the disease occurs in geographical areas where other mycotic diseases such as coccidioidomycosis and histoplasmosis, which cause similar clinical mani-festations, are endemic. In addition, no reliable skin test is available to help identify cases. Differential diagnosis is difficult, and laboratory studies are essential for the diagnosis of blastomycosis.
