Abstract
The preceding chapters summarize the data recovered from our archaeological and geological investigations in the two adjacent depressions of Bir Tarfawi and Bir Sahara East. Each depression has a long stratigraphie sequence representing a series of wet periods separated by arid episodes of varying magnitude. In each depression, there are Late and Final Acheulean lakes and spring pools whose stratigraphic relationships to each other have not been determined; there is also clear evidence for five separate Middle Paleolithic lacustrine events and, in Tarfawi, there is a separate Middle Paleolithic playa.
