Abstract
Site BT-14 lies in the northern part (Section BT-A) of the Bir Tarfawi basin (see map on p. 254), precisely at 22°52.4′N, 28°52.9′E (T. Maxwell, pers. comm.). It includes extensive areas of Middle Paleolithic artifacts and faunal remains, dropped by deflation onto the erosional surfaces of old lacustrine sediments. The site was first studied in 1974, when considerable effort was devoted to the study of surface exposures of large mammal bones associated with Middle Paleolithic artifacts (Areas A and D) and to the wide scatters of artifacts without bones (Areas B, C and E) (Ch. 21, this volume).
