Abstract

In this chapter I will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of the somatic sequelae of torture. Summarily, these can be divided into (1) a general stress-related condition which is found to some extent in most untreated survivors, irrespective of the type of torture; and (2) the symptoms and findings related to specific torture methods and to body parts and organ systems directly affected by the torture.
