Abstract
Families contribute to criminality in at least three ways: by genetic transmission, through placement in physical and socioeconomic contexts, and by virtue of their child-rearing practices. I discuss each of these, noting some of the difficulties involved in their study and identifying some of the major results of research as well as some of the important issues remaining
