Assessing Eating Pathology in Hispanic Americans

Guide to Psychological Assessment with Hispanics

Abstract

Eating pathology can be found among Hispanic Americans at comparable rates to Caucasians. Despite this, little research on the assessment of eating pathology in Hispanic Americans exists. This review provides a thorough review of the literature on select clinical interviews and paper and pencil questionnaires related to eating pathology in Hispanic Americans, and provides the relevant information for researchers and practitioners to assist their decision making process when using assessments. Cultural considerations, norms for measures, limits of the existing literature, and future research are also discussed. Thus, this review serves as a basic tool for clinicians and researchers alike interested in eating pathology in Hispanic Americans.
