Radiation Therapy of Other Cutaneous Tumors

  • Chapter
Modern Dermatologic Radiation Therapy

Abstract

Most keratoacanthomas occur in elderly patients; they are believed to be benign epidermal neoplasms. Solitary keratoacanthomas are most common; multiple or eruptive lesions are seen only rarely. Most dermatologists agree that in the absence of functional or cosmetic complications, careful observation without active intervention is the best therapeutic approach for small keratoacanthomas. In most patients, spontaneous resolution with some formation of scar tissue is the usual course of events in the relatively common, small, solitary type of lesion.
