Studies on the Pathomechanics of Chronic Actinic Dermatosis

  • Chapter
Research in Photobiology

Abstract

The structural alteration in chronic actinic dermatosis consists of dermal as well of epidermal changes. In the dermis a double order of changes are evident:

  1. 1)

regressive metamorphosis (elastosis of the middle dermis, including disappearance of the argyrophilic reticulum and blood vessels,

  2. 2)

fibrosis of the uppermost dermis with flattening of the dermoepidermal interface, since the dermal papillae disappear.
