Abstract
Historically cryopumping had its first major applications in the space program of the 1960s where it was used in large space simulation chambers, rocket exhaust test chambers, and low-density wind tunnels. The advantages over conventional means of providing a clean vacuum and achieving high speeds economically remain the primary reasons for using small refrigerated cryopumps in more recent applications.
