Abstract

Hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) is a dye with photodynamic action. The selective localization at tumor loci has been exploited for both tumor localization and tumor therapy (1–5). At present, the mechanism of photodynamic therapy has not been elucidated. In order to study the anti-tumor mechanisms at the subcellular level, the ultrastructura1 changes of ECA109 esophageal epithelial cancer cells were observed before and after treatment with HPD and irradiation.
