Sequence Analysis of Mammalian Cytochrome b Mutants

  • Chapter
Cytochrome Systems

Abstract

A series of mouse cell mutants with increased resistance to inhibitors of electron transport through the protonmotive cytochrome h of Complex III (ubiquinol — cytochrome c oxidoreductase) have been isolated in this laboratory (Howell et al., 1983a; Howell et al., 1983b; Howell and Nalty, submitted for publication). Biochemical and somatic cell genetic analyses indicated that these resistance phenotypes were determined by mutations within the mitochondrial gene encoding the apocytochrome b.
