Dermatophytes and Pityrosporum in AIDS Patients: Ecology and Epidemiology

  • Chapter
Mycoses in AIDS Patients

Abstract

Various skin disorders are claimed to be commonly associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Actually several of these skin diseases, including dermatomycoses are not more prevalent in HIV infected individuals as compared to the general population (Fisher and Warner, 1987; Valle, 1987; Goodman et al., 1987; Sindrup et al., 1987). The difference, as will be shown by other participants at this symposium, lies in the unusual presentation and the severity of the clinical manifestations.
