Summary of Concepts Concerning the Arterial Wall and Its Atherosclerotic Lesions

  • Conference paper
Atherosclerosis V

Abstract

Since the original observation made over 100 years ago that cholesterol accumulates in the arterial wall in atherosclerosis, great interest has been placed on the histology, chemistry, biochemistry, cytochemistry and physical chemistry of the arterial wall. I wish to briefly bring together some facts concerning the lipids of the arterial wall and the changes that occur during the development of the advanced atherosclerotic plaque.
