The Ethics of Isolation, the Spread of Disturbance, and Landscape Ecology

  • Chapter
Landscape Heterogeneity and Disturbance

Part of the book series: Ecological Studies ((ECOLSTUD,volume 64))

Abstract

Three relatively distinct major themes emerge from the chapters of this book. I will first introduce and briefly explore a key question of ethics, as this is a foundation of all planning, management, and individual actions in landscapes. The second section will focus on how landscape heterogeneity affects the spread of disturbance, the subject of this book and a 1986 symposium held in Athens, Georgia. The final section considers the growth of landscape ecology, as both the conceptual and applied framework for this volume.
