Has Psychology Exaggerated Its “Natural Scientific Character”?

Recent Trends in Theoretical Psychology

Part of the book series: Recent Research in Psychology ((PSYCHOLOGY))

Summary

This paper deals with current critiques of the ‘natural scientific approach’ in mainstream psychology. The links to the alleged models of either evolutionary biology or physics are critically examined. The idea of an antiscientism avoiding the metaphysical opposition of ‘science’ and ‘humanities’ is sketched out. The paper ends with some implications regarding ‘theoretical psychology’.
