Part of the book series: Santa Cruz Summer Workshops in Astronomy and Astrophysics ((SANTA CRUZ))

Summary

The main topics in the fields of speckle can be divided into four items: i/ the theory of wave propagation in the atmospheric turbulent medium, ii/ the instrumentation required to carry out reliable observations, iii/ data processing and related algorithms, and iv/ astrophysic

Because this workshop is devoted to instrumentation, I will focus this review on points ii/ and on those aspects of points i/ and iii/ which have implications for the instrumentation.
