Abstract
In the last two decades, it has become clear that the genus Spiroplasma is one of great size and diversity. Since the first species was cultured in 1970 (46, 130), these helical, motile, wall-less procaryotes have been discovered in or on a multitude of hosts (27, 61, 151).
