Abstract

Radiotherapy has an important part to play in the management of primary tumours of the female genital tract. It has a major curative place in cervical carcinoma and a supportive role to surgery in carcinoma of the corpus uteri and ovary. The radiotherapist may also have to treat the rarer primary tumours of the vagina and vulva and contribute to the management of sarcomatous tumours of the uterus. Closer collaboration with consultant gynaecological colleagues is essential to ensure an optimum approach and this is often best done before any attempt at radical treatment.
