Abstract
Infection and inflammation of the reproductive tract are accepted as important etiologic factors of male infertility [1–3]. With regard to their impact on reproductive function, orchitis and epididymo-orchitis are of particular concern. Whereas the clinical term orchitis is used particularly for acute, symptomatic disease due to local or systemic infection, a comprehensive classification also should include noninfectious disorders. The following etiologic factors of testicular inflammation must be considered [4–8]:
