Summary

The paper describes the development of computer numerical control (CNC) software for Herbert Batchmatic numerical control lathes-the first production lathes to be offered with CNC. The paper deals with the topics of system cost, system flexibility, machine logic, error diagnostics, tape preparation and prove-out, feedrate and interpolation. In each case the advantages and problems of implementing the features in software are described.
