Coverage of Shelf Life in APS Systems

Supply Chain Management und Logistik

Abstract

Despite the progress provided by modern Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) systems, implementations in the fresh food industries such as dairy, meat, or bakery goods remain sparse. In this application domain, the consideration of shelf life in production planning is of particular importance. Therefore, we analyze three software packages (SAP APO, the Supply Chain Planning suite of Oracle’s EnterpriseOne package, and the CSB system) with respect to their consideration of shelf life and derive several improvement potentials.
