Abstract

The article compares the elastic anisotropic properties of samples recovered from the Kola Superdeep Borehole (SD-3 ). Samples were recovered from the Proterozoic and Archean layers. The petrophysical properties of rock samples from the Proterozoic layer of the SD-3 section (0–6842 m; metatuffs or metatuff schists, schists, gabbro diabases, metadiabases, plagioamphiboles, and gneisses) vary widely due to variations in their mineral composition. The predominant rocks in the Archean part of the SD-3 section are gneisses, schists, and amphibolites. The velocity characteristics of rock samples recovered from depths of 0.7–11.3 km are influenced by the decompaction effect. To estimate the velocity values close to those in situ, the values obtained by calculating the mineral composition should be applied. The results can be used in geophysical research and technical calculations in mining.
