Abstract

On October 5, 1858, Nietzsche entered the prestigious Pforta boarding school (Schulp forta) after receiving a scholarship from the city of Naumburg. The Gymnasium provided Germany’s best classical education and could boast of such alumni as Leopold von Ranke and Friedrich Klopstock, and the precursors of German nationalism, Novalis and Johann Fichte.
