Abstract
In this fast-moving world of globalisation, the drive towards uniformity of culture means that those who lag behind have no place and become marginalised. In developing countries women constitute a major component of this marginalised population. In Rajasthan, still a backward state of India, it is the women who really suffer. Look at the crimes listed against them — rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, cruelty by husband, kidnapping or abduction. Out of ten crimes listed in the state, nine concern violations of the female body.1
