This study was aimed at evaluating the effects of cinnamon-coated cerium oxide nanoparticles as a new drug for treatring pentylenetetrazole-induced seizures in rats. For this purpose, cerium oxide nanoparticles were prepared, characterized, coated with cinnamon, and evaluated for the anticonvulsant effects upon intraperitoneal injection to mice. The sedative and anxiolytic effects of nanoparticles were examined and the oxidative stress index of brain tissue was determined using a commercial kit. These findings showed that cinnamon-coated cerium oxide nanoparticles at a high dose significantly delayed the latent period of seizrues, decreased anxiety, and suppressed neuronal apoptosis in the rat brain. Results suggest that these nanoparticles possess anticonvulsant activity, produce sedative effect, and exhibit antioxidant properties.
