Summaries

Colour and constitution relationships within a series of naphtholazo pigments have been established. The spectral properties of the pigments in solution correlate reasonably well with the results of optimised PPP-MO calculations, and the colouristic properties of the pigments in the solid and solution states show generally similar trends. Structure/property relationships, in terms of solvent resistance, lightfastness and thermal stability, have been established for the series of pigments in printing ink and industrial paint applications. X-ray powder diffraction studies demonstrate that the aqueous heat treatment used in the synthesis of the pigments provides enhanced crystallinity which generally leads in turn to improved colouristic and technical performance.

Résumé

Les rapports entre la couleur et la composition ont été établis en ce qui concerne une série de pigments à naphtylazo. Les propriétés spectrales des pigments en solution correspondent assez bien aux résultats de calculs PPP-MO optimisés, et les propriétés coloristiques des pigments sous forme solide ou en solution font preuve en général de mémes tendances. Les rapports structure/propriétés, en ce qui concerne la résistance aux solvants, la résistance à la lumière et la stabilité thermique, ont été établis pour la série de pigments. Il s’agit des encres d’impression et des applications de peintures industrielles. Des études menées grâce à la diffraction des rayons X sur poudre ont montré que le traitement thermique aqueux utilisé pour la synthèse des pigments fournit une meilleure cristalinité qui, à son tour, mène, en général, à une meilleure performance coloristique et technique.

Zusammenfassung

Die Farb- und Anordnungsverhältnisse innerhalb einer Serie von Naphtholazopigmenten wurden etabliert. Die spektralen Eigenschaften der gelösten Pigmente korellieren relativ gut mit den Ergebnissen von optimisierten PPP-MO Rechnungen, und die Farbeigenschaften der Pigmente sowohl im soliden als auch im flüssigen Zustand folgen einem ähnlichen Trend. Das Ver hältnis von Struktul und Eigenschaften mit Hinblick auf Lösungsmitteresistenz, Lichtechtheit und Hitzebeständigkeit wurden für eine Serie von Druck- und Industriefarbenpigmente dargelegt. Röntgenpuderdiffraktionsstudien zeigen, daß die wässrige Hitzebehandlung, die in der Synthese der Pigmente verwendet wird, zu verstärkter Kristallbildung führt, was wiederum die Farbe und technische Leistung der Pigmente verbessert.
