Abstract
Between 1974 and 1983 ten consecutive patients with Type I persistent truncus arteriosus underwent correction with the use of an antibiotic sterilised aortic homograft conduit. Eight patients survived operation and the long term functional results have been excellent. Despite calcification in its wall the function of the homograft conduit has been normal and no conduit has needed replacement. This conduit would seem to be the best available for correction of this rare and difficult lesion, and operation should be offered within the first year of life.
