Abstract

In this chapter, students will study important economic ideas and principles for resource management in the healthcare industry. This chapter strives to improve understanding of the building blocks of health economics, as well as the application of demand in health care, supply in health care, production and cost analysis approaches, market analysis and examination the cost of health care and how it is spent in a hospital environment, and explains the economic evaluation techniques. The chapter also gives a comprehensive overview of how to apply the public finance method to policy challenges involving the role of policy-makers and other stakeholders, as well as how to use such studies in policy planning and evaluation.
