Abstract

Teaching environmental history is at once a great responsibility and a tremendous opportunity to equip students to better understand and respond to the very serious, complex and multi-dimensional environmental challenges we face. This chapter discusses the applications of environmental history in a time of biodiversity and climate crises, and provides first-hand insights into the author’s experience of teaching environmental history at undergraduate and honours level. The chapter surveys some of the challenges encountered and concludes with a smorgasbord of ideas for teaching environmental history and humanities in universities and beyond.
