Abstract
The two Japanese particles kara and node, both mean ‘because’ or ‘since’, as illustrated in (1).
Much of the data in this paper are taken from Mari Nakamura’s 1987 Ohio State University M.A. thesis. The authors wish to acknowledge Charles Quinn for useful discussions related to the topic of this paper.
