Abstract
A summer school on millimetre and submillimetre astronomy is an ideal place for a review of continuum processes in active galactic nuclei (AGN) both because all the major processes are relevant in some sense and also because I believe that the order of magnitude increase in sensitivity that the JCMT should offer at these wavelengths will allow us to begin to answer a number of crucial questions regarding the nature of the emission in these objects.
