Abstract

Inland waterway transportation (IWT) already has a high level of performance, especially in the hinterland traffic of seaports. In waterborne container traffic, particularly the metropolitan areas along the Rhine are primarily served by conventional, large, and regularly operating vessels. Large cargo volumes are transshipped and handled at each terminal along the Rhine.
