Zusammenfassung
Die USA sind weiterhin einer der größten Energieproduzenten der Welt. Dabei hat US-Präsident Joe Biden einen deutlich anderen energiepolitischen Kurs eingeschlagen als sein Vorgänger Donald Trump. Während Trump die Deregulierung der Öl- und Gasindustrie und eine protektionistische America First-Vision der Energieunabhängigkeit verfolgte, setzt Biden auf nachhaltige Energien. Dies ist nicht allein klimapolitisch motiviert. Energiepolitik ist ein wichtiger Baustein in Bidens Build Back Better-Programm: Er will die heimische Produktion von erneuerbaren Energietechnologien fördern, um so zukunftsfähige Arbeitsplätze gerade auch für die Mittelschicht zu schaffen und die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der USA zu stärken. Biden nutzte zu diesem Zweck politische und wirtschaftliche Gelegenheitsfenster um große Ausgabenpakete zu verabschieden. In der Energieaußenpolitik nutzt die Biden-Administration in der Ukraine-Krise Flüssiggasexporte als Machtdemonstration gegen Russland. Handelskonflikte sowohl im Bereich der sauberen Energietechnologien als auch fossiler Energieträger schlagen sich auch unter Biden nieder.
