Abstract

Currently, great interest is taken in the search for antiviral drugs and their development. Broadly speaking, there are two strategic approaches to develop such drugs: (1) to search for compounds which offer protection against viruses by an indirect route, i.e., via production of interferon or similar antiviral proteins, (2) to look for compounds which interact directly with the virus or viral components, and in this way block the functional expression of the virus.
