Abstract
The Arctic possesses great quantities of natural resources without which little attention would be paid to this frigid part of the world except by scientists of various hues, and governments with national security and military strategic purposes in mind. Add to these the But shipping is just one among several ways of transporting resources within and in and out of the Arctic. Inland waterways, roads, railways, pipelines and airplanes are part of the complicated Arctic transportation network.
This chapter is written by Dr Arnfinn Jørgensen-Dahl, Ocean Futures. Tor Wergeland, Ocean Futures (affiliated), has contributed material on the issues of pipelines and international shipping as well as the entire section on Arctic cruise activity.
